The central oval is left untreated; you can trace and emboss the lettering or use peel-offs, whichever you prefer. The flowers are embossed on the reverse and the rest is a mixture of embossing, pricking and cutwork - see the photo of the finished card for details.

A variation on the 'oval-with-flowers' idea. The outer scallops are perforated and removed carefully to give a lacy edge, and the central oval can also be cut out if a frame is required.

You can see the finished card, with the addition of an age number, on this page.

The original of this design (see here) was drawn straight on the parchment and the design committed to paper later (it is more usual to trace designs onto parchment from paper.) The central flower is embossed and the outer margin pricked, all from the reverse side; the corner perforations are made with a decorative corner punch.
